What is polymyositis?

Polymyositis is a type of chronic inflammatory condition. Polymyositis causes muscle weakness, usually in the muscles closest to the trunk of your body. The cause of polymyositis is unknown and may involve multiple factors, perhaps related to autoimmune factors, genetics, and viruses.
